<p>If you guys read the previous post, then you&#8217;ll know we have one method of installing Mango; and that is if you have an unlocked device. Fortunately, the folks at WindowsPhoneHacker<a title="windowsphonehacker" href="http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/get_the_mango_update_now._without_being_a_developer.-06-30-11"> </a>have figured out a way to get the Mango update on any Windows Phone without having a developer unlocked device. Be warned though, as doing this will void your warranty. The tool also offers a way to backup your phone, and I highly recommend doing this if you choose to go down this path.</p>
<p>Please note that the following tool has a disclaimer, that I will voice for as well. &#8220;Please note we are not responsible for any damage caused to your device, in trouble in get into, etc. Do it at your own risk. ”, but if you still want to then check out the details below.</p>
<p>Note: All download links will not be provided, please refer to the source link at the bottom for all the download links as we take no credit for them.</p>
<p>Requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li>A Windows Phone running NoDo or higher.</li>
<li>Windows Phone 7 Support Tools. Get the x64 or x86 version, depending on what you are running.</li>
<li>Download the update tool from WindowsPhoneHacker. ( link at bottom)</li>
<li>Connect your phone to your computer.</li>
<li>Make sure you have enough disk space as the update tool will be downloading all the necessary files for Zune to update your phone ( leave atleast 8GB ).</li>
</ul>
<p>Now perform the following steps</p>
<ol>
<li>Make sure Zune is closed and extract the updating tool you’ve just downloaded to the C drive’s root directory (C:\) and run it as an administrator (right-click on Update.bat and select “Run as administrator).</li>
<li>Zune should launch automatically after installation. Now check for updates on your phone through Zune; the program should find the “Windows Phone 7 build 7401″ update;  install it. Once it’s done, check again, and Zune should find the “Windows Phone 7 Mango build 7661″ update; install it. (The second update will give you all the current Mango features)</li>
<li>Once you have Mango on your phone Zune will not be able to locate your phone or access it with a USB connection. You will need to download the beta version of Zune ( link at bottom ) and install it.</li>
</ol>

<p>If all this news about lack of tethering on your shiny new Windows Phone 7 made you sad – this post might make you really happy! Unfortunately, tethering is severely limited to only *one* Windows Phone 7 device right now – the Samsung Focus! So if you really wanted tethering, and somehow made the right choice and picked up a Samsung Focus – you’re in luck. Here is a step by step guide to set up tethering.</p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Step 1: Enable Diagnostic Menu and Switch USB Mode</span></span></strong></p>
<p>First step is to activate the diagnostic menu.</p>
<p>a) Open up the phone keypad, and enter: <strong>##634#</strong></p>
<p><strong><a rel="attachment wp-att-75" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/img_0032/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-75 colorbox-72" title="IMG_0032" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/IMG_0032-580x434.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="434" /></a></strong></p>
<p>b) Hit Call. This will bring up the Diagnostic Menu.</p>
<p>c) Enter: *#7284# to open up the USB Mode Menu:</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-76" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/img_0036/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-76 colorbox-72" title="IMG_0036" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/IMG_0036-580x434.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="434" /></a></p>
<p>d) In the “Micro USB Test” menu, select the 2nd option: <strong>Modem, Tethered Call</strong></p>
<p><strong><a rel="attachment wp-att-79" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/img_0040/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-79 colorbox-72" title="IMG_0040" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/IMG_0040-580x434.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="434" /></a></strong></p>
<p>e) It will ask you to reboot your phone. Hit OK/Confirm.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-80" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/img_0039/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-80 colorbox-72" title="IMG_0039" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/IMG_0039-580x434.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="434" /></a></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Step 2: Install Modem Drivers and Set Up Connection</span></span></strong></p>
<p>a) Make sure you have the latest Zune software installed from here: <a href="http://zune.net/en-CA/products/learningcenter/windowsphone7/default.htm">http://zune.net/en-CA/products/learningcenter/windowsphone7/default.htm</a></p>
<p>b) Download and install the Samsung Modem drivers from here: <a href="http://mywpstory.com/downloads/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe">http://mywpstory.com/downloads/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe</a></p>
<p>c) Connect your Samsung Focus to your PC, then go to Control Panel, then <strong>Device Manager</strong> (or in the start menu search box type: “device manager”. Expand the “Modems” section and you should see a: “SAMSUNG Mobile Modem” if the drivers were installed properly.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-81" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/modem/"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-81 colorbox-72" title="modem" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/modem.png" alt="" width="227" height="67" /></a></p>
<p>d) Double click to open modem properties. Go to the Advanced tab, and in the Extra Initialization Commands, enter:<br />
For AT&amp;T users: <strong>AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”wap.cingular”<br />
</strong>For Rogers users: <strong>+cgdcont=1,&#8221;IP&#8221;,&#8221;internet.com&#8221;</strong></p>
<p><strong><a rel="attachment wp-att-82" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/modem-advanced/"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-82 colorbox-72" title="modem-advanced" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/modem-advanced.png" alt="" width="417" height="221" /></a></strong></p>
<p>d) Open up Control Panel and go to <strong>Network and Sharing Center</strong>. Select “Set up a new connection or network&#8221;.</p>
<p>e) Select “Set up a dial-up connection”. Then choose the SAMSUNG Mobile Modem.</p>
<p>f) The next settings depend on your wireless provider.</p>
<p>For AT&amp;T, use the following settings:</p>
<p>Phone#: <strong>*99***1#<br />
</strong>User Name: <strong>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM<br />
</strong>Password: <strong>CINGULAR1</strong></p>
<p>For Rogers, use the following settings:</p>
<p>Phone#: <strong>*99***1#<br />
</strong>User Name: <strong>wapuser1</strong><br />
Password: <strong>wap</strong></p>
<p>g) Click Connect! If all is good, you should be able to start browsing the net! I’m on Rogers, and although it’s not exactly the fastest speeds in the world – it’s totally usable. Check out my speedtest:</p>
<p><img class="colorbox-72"  src="http://www.speedtest.net/result/1091740611.png" alt="" /></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Closing Notes:</span></span></strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Unfortunately, if you’re in tethering mode – your phone *will not* be recognized in Zune. You need to switch back to Zune Sync mode. The good news, is that once you have enabled the Diagnostic menu, it is now treated like an “app.” So if you go to the apps screen, there should be an app called “Diagnosis” like below. Just enter *#7284# and switch back to Zune Sync mode.<br />
<a rel="attachment wp-att-83" href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-as-long-as-its-a-samsung-focus/img_0041/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-83 colorbox-72" title="IMG_0041" src="http://mywpstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/IMG_0041-580x434.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="434" /></a></li>
<li>Tethering ALSO works on a mac. You can find that <a href="http://mywpstory.com/2010/12/how-to-tether-on-your-new-windows-phone-7-mac-osx-edition-for-samsung-phones-only/">tutorial here.</a></li>
